Lori Curless, the Airport Manager for Crawfordsville Regional Airport spoke to the Crawfordsville Kiwanis Club on Thursday 9-14-23. Curlessot herself, has been with the Crawfordsville Airport for 6 years and has helped make the airport one of the top regional airports in the state.
With about 30 tenants paying rent for the hangers, selling fuel to those that land and take off here, having an aircraft rental business and a very good pilot training business operating out of Crawfordsville the airport has grown and has become successful. It is one of the major reasons that businesses are moving here because there is quick access from around the country.
The airport recently supported the Ironman race in Crawfordsville having planes bringing race teams to the city for the race from as far away as Chile.
Lori says she really enjoys being an EAA Young Eagle Coordinator providing free flights for kids ages 8-17 who may want to learn to fly. Lori is also a 2023 recipient of the National Business Aviation Association’s Top 40 under 40.
It’s great having a community supported by an airport with all of these services.
Dr Gallardo, I appreciate the opportunity to talk with you and arrange for you to speak to these amazing students from Montgomery County.
We will be meeting at the Crawfordsville District Public Library at 205 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville at 11:30 for a quick lunch and then have the students introduce themselves followed by your talk and short Q & A. We hope to finish by 1 pm. Looking at your background and your involvement in economic development of rural areas your expertise would be a perfect fit. Our area of Montgomery County is growing dramatically and we want to keep these kids here or at least get them to return after furthering their education. Making broadband available in some areas of our county is also very important. I know of some towns in our county without any service now so this definitely will help. Kiwanis is all about serving kids and this is one of the ways we do it by celebrating them and encouraging further service to our community.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Gary,
This is Wes Mills from Purdue. Tim Doty asked me to assist in getting you a speaker for the Crawfordsville Kiwanis luncheon on May 2nd. It’s wonderful that you are celebrating such high achievers in Montgomery County.
I would like to introduce you to Roberto Gallardo, Ph.D. - Vice President for Engagement, Director of the Purdue Center for Regional Development and an Associate Professor in the Agricultural Economics Department.
Among his many titles, Roberto is an expert in regional economic development, especially in terms of rural communities and prospering in the digital age. I think the attendees at the luncheon will find him rather engaging and thought provoking.
